Monthly Mewsfeed – Jul 2025

Welcome to the average Mewsfeed of a month that could have been more productive and dealt with less cat issues!

Mood Meter

🤕 Felix: An injured leg has joined the usual snot-problems.
🥱 Sneaky: I’m bored. Brother gets all the attention.
😬 Maryla: Summer holiday soon, yes?

🙂 Count Dartula: Approaching completion!

1️⃣ New Project Ideas

A rare urge to work on some writing appeared, went away and had very little impact overall. An old story has been refined though!

Last Month

What a month. I am so, so, so sick of ill cats! Our permanent patient has now acquired a bad leg for his collection of reasons to bother the vet. Maybe he thinks he is maintaining his twice-a-month streak or something… fortunately his leg is looking better every day now, he’s just a bit grumpy about the bandage that stops him from licking where he shouldn’t. With that little idiot in the house keeping everyone busy, I am glad I got things done.

✅️ Finish Knockout

Knockout has gone out with the last release and should be playable. There might be a tiny issue with re-loading a game with a player that is already out, where it sometimes thinks it is that player’s turn. I saw that for the first time way after it released, so if that happens to you, an undo/redo should get you back into a reasonable state!

✅️ Implement general Darty chatter

Part of Darty’s new opinions are already on the Playstore. The next release should add a few more that I didn’t think of before!

✅️ Another Playstore release

Knockout and Darty were well-behaved and went public together. Nothing to add here 🙂

✅️ Finally understand Cricket

This one is a bit more interesting. I always thought American and English Cricket were variations of one and the same game . This is not really the case, so I won double the work with double the amount of game modes.

✅️ Start Cricket implementation

American Cricket needed an entirely new UI and was a lot of work to design, implement and test. Let me know if the UI tells you what you need once it is released!

The UK version was easy in comparison and I am happy to say that both got finished.

✅️ Additional stuff

  • New Linux installation
This was a shame to have to do – I quite liked the distro I was using, but for some ungodly reason it just refused to update properly and I got so annoyed that I replaced it with what I was running before. So far, things update without complaint 🥲
  • Started next game mode – Scram
Scram is similar to English Cricket, but different enough that it deserves its own game mode. I could take a lot of inspiration from Cricket’s code and should be done with it quite soon.

Next Month

August should be a bit more relaxed – half of it will be vacation, with loads of birthdays to celebrate with family. Still, I am going to stick to a conservative plan. I do feel like I need a break from programming, and my new part time job as a geriatric cat nurse should not be underestimated. Would anyone like to place bets on the amount of vet trips our fluffy idiots will need? 😆

➡️ Finish Scram

This should not take up too much time. Only finishing touches and tests as well as rules are left to do.

➡️ Implement Warfare

Warfare is probably the last game mode that I am implementing for now. Count Dartula should then have a nice variety of games, and I can start a new project!

➡️ Links to socials etc. from the app

I have an idea of a little view with links to my stuff that could be added to an app’s home screen. Since I royally suck at marketing, maybe some cross-pollination between apps could help in the long run.

➡️ Possibly update Godot version

This one is a bit of an unknown because the next Godot version is still in beta. I will definitely need to update soon though, because the Playstore will insist on a higher API level and block updates with older versions. I am procrastinating on further releases to Count Dartula until this is out to avoid a stupid, pointless maintenance update.

➡️ Next release

Even if the Godot update doesn’t work out in time, there will be at least one release before the API level deadline at the end of next month. My hope is to have all game modes included until then, just in case the next update after that is forced to wait a little.

Apologies for another vague outlook for August. Especially the uncertainty with releases is a bit frustrating. As always, I will let you know next month how it all turned out!
