Monthly Mewsfeed – Sep 2025

Hello all! Autumn is here, and so is Mewsfeed time. It will be a bit rushed today since I have been under the weather, let’s see how much sense I make!

Mood Meter

đŸĒ‘ī¸ Felix: Rediscovering the dining chairs. They comfy!
Šī¸ Sneaky: Brother had a thing on his leg, I want in on the fun now!
đŸ˜Ēī¸ Maryla: Slight cold, maybe, or not… no brain for now!

đŸ¤“ī¸ Count Dartula: Boring update available soon?!
đŸš€ī¸ Lonely Socks: I have achieved some velocity!

3ī¸âƒŖī¸ New Project Ideas

  • Another re-release: my 2 first games under a new (joint) name?
  • Another grid based number matching game that I hope won’t eat much time
  • A slime matching game – older idea, but getting more defined in my head

Lots of ideas, I know! Good progress on the socks gave me some confidence that a new project could be possible soon, so I don’t feel as bad about planning new things 🙂

Last Month

Not sure what happened in September, but I got a lot more done than I thought! Especially the start of the month was amazing. The geriatric cat faction is alright as well – Sneaky had a cold, but is fine now. She also has a bald/scabby spot on her leg that won’t go away despite best creaming efforts, but she also doesn’t seem to care at all.

✅ī¸ Load/store game state

After implementing this, I was so annoyed by the boring, repetitive code that I decided for the 3rd time to finally automate (de)serialising data objects. I then proceeded to fail to implement this automation, but I am trying again at the moment, and I think there is hope!

✅ī¸ Implement pulling in new socks

It’s functional, but has an ugly jump when pulling 2 rows at once. I will take a look at it when fine-tuning the animations.

✅ī¸ Implement high score tracking

Scores are tracked across all game modes, and the score of a game that is still in progress can be seen moving up the ranks now 🙂

✅ī¸ Set up all game modes

The 4 game modes are all done, even including their tutorials! Very happy to have those out of the way. They now only explain what applies to the active mode.

✅ī¸ Implement level unlocks

Game modes now unlock one after the other at scores that I feel are easy enough to reach. I’d not be surprised if I have to correct those guesses, so let me know if you don’t like them!

✅ī¸ Additional stuff

Since so many things went so well this time, I have a bunch of extra stuff finished:

  • Misc cleanups in my template project
Multiple little things, cleanups and bugfixes to make future projects easier. More will follow, especially the autosaving module!
  • Preparations for the Playstore release
Credits, localisations, configurations… boring stuff, but it’s out of the way.
  • Hinting for matchable socks
In V1, if the player got stuck for too long, there was a hint button that would help find a match. This time, I had an idea to make the socks look at each other and expected this to be finicky and complicated – it really wasn’t 😀
  • Sock banisher button for normal mode
The “sock banisher” is an unlockable power that allows to delete a single sock after enough matches were made in normal mode. I thought I would not get around to it this month, but I was wrong 🙂
  • A new icon that I don’t like yet
    It will be re-done soon.

This month was the best proof that I can’t estimate a task’s effort to save my life. There were multiple things that I remembered to be difficult and time consuming, but somehow they got finished within half an evening, including 2 tangents and an unplanned improvement with some sprinkles on top. It was a bit too good to be true, to be honest đŸ˜…ī¸

Next Month

I’m not sure how much dev time I have in October, so it’s hard to guess what I can get done. My official hope is that I won’t lose more time to this stupid, snotless, tiring, brainless cold. The unofficial, secret hope is to get Lonely Socks finished and released in October, but don’t tell anyone!

➥ī¸ Finish the autosaver module

This thing has been haunting me for a week now – it’s not done, but I believe it is on a good way. Moving the old save systems to the new one might be effort, but if I never have to implement an “object to dictionary” converter again, it will be SO worth it.

➥ī¸ Update to Godot 4.5

I was right not to include this in last month’s plan, but 4.5 is out now and I can finally get on with it 🙂

➥ī¸ Update Count Dartula

This will be a maintenance release without new features, but I also want to update the data handling to the new autosaver module. I’m a bit apprehensive here because Count Dartula stores a bunch of complex data, but it’s also not too critical if this gets pushed back.

➥ī¸ Update Lonely Socks

Famous last words: I’m optimistic that nothing horrible will happen here!

➥ī¸ Fine-tune Lonely Socks visuals

Some visuals are still a bit off and I want to look at the animations again to make gameplay feel less slow. And then there is the icon. V1’s looked like đŸ’Šī¸ and the current one is somehow less appealing.

The progress on Socks has been exciting, and I’d be very happy if I could start another project soon 🙂 I half-decided to give myself a break from the re-releases by starting the small number matching game that I have in my head. Ideas are cheap though, I will let you know what comes next in October’s Mewsfeed. Until then, don’t catch the seasonal cold, enjoy autumn… and good night!
